Qureshi-Rojer qualifies for Barclays ATP World Tour Finals – Tennis News
Pakistani-Dutch duo, Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi and Jean-Julien Rojer, qualified for season-ending Barclays ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour Finals after securing a quarter-final berth at the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris Bercy, France on 1st
November.
The Pakistani-Dutch junction high-spiritedly entered the ATP Masters 1000 event held in Paris. After triumphing over the Spanish-Serbian tandem, Feliciano Lopez and Nenad Zimonjic, in a three-set thriller in almost two hours, the in-form tandem secured the
seventh spot in the circuit finale taking place in London.
Currently ranked 14th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Doubles Rankings, Qureshi and Rojer showed superb skills right after pairing up with each other in the start of this season. They suffered early round exits in the opening few tournaments
despite making a third round appearance at the Australian Open, first of the four Grand Slam events held in Melbourne.
Their partnership clicked in the clay court season when the Pakistani-Dutch tandem entered the Estoril Open. They outmuscled the Austrian-Spanish pair, Julian Knowle and David Marrero, in straight sets to capture their maiden career title together.
They maintained their intensity on the clay courts and after reaching semis in Nice, Qureshi and Rojer cruised into the final four at the Roland Garros.
The Pakistani-Dutch collaboration kept momentum rolling in the grass court season. Qureshi and Rojer unleashed flurry of winners and overpowered the Pilipino-American tandem, Treat Conrad Huey and Scott Lipsky, in straight sets to grab their second career
title together.
“Many people thought that my win was a fluke last year. It’s all come together and I’m very excited because it has just reaffirmed our confidence. Switching from clay to grass was difficult and I was feeling the pressure but we did well,” The Pakistani was
quoted in an interview to The Express Tribune after capturing the title in Halle. “This win proves that I’m good enough. Both Rojer and I have continued the momentum we started in Estoril, then to the French open and now in Halle.”
Qureshi and Rojer maintained consistency in their game in the hard court season after securing a third round showing at the Wimbledon Championships. They reached far in several tournaments before cruising into the final four at the US Open without losing
a set.
The high flying duo reaches the semi-finals at the If Stockholm Open (lost to the Brazilian pair of Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares) before entering the Paris Masters.
