Looking for an informed opinionI have a house in So Cal – 100 plus temperatures.Current renter has tried to run A/C all night and it stopsApparently the evaporator ices up. I’ve told him to stop till I find out what gives but he continues to use it at night.I look under furnace and find wet floor. On a 100 degree day with 75 degree air inside and 65 degree wet bulb, I measure 50 psig on the suction side of the compressor. Is this evidence of low freon?I don’t plan to add my own – don’t have epa 308 license – but would like to know what gives since I don’t particularly trust local AC guys – some of whom operate by feeling the pipes and others of whom want $50 per pound for R-22.My concern is that if freon is too low may ice up evaporator with result that liquid goes back to compressor – which I understand can break the compressor– and also I understand that compressor may not get adequate lubrication; but if too high may harm the compressor in some other way.Looking for help
