R.A Dickey ecstatic after signing $25 million two-year deal with Toronto Blue Jays-MLB Update
Former New York Mets starting pitcher, R.A Dickey is thankful to all those who followed him since the beginning of the offseason and showed solidarity.
At the same time, he is jubilant after joining the Toronto Blue Jays at $25 million for two years.
He believes the Blue Jays are going to be the team where he will be rewarded duly for his contributions.
Dickey won the Cy Young Award for his performance during the 2012 season. He was outstanding right from the beginning of the year.
For a team that struggled largely, he was one of the few reasons why they could win a couple of games after experiencing lengthy losing streaks.
He kept the Mets afloat when the rest of their players floundered.
Every time the Mets piled up losses giving an impression that they are going to fail miserably, Dickey stood up, helping them snap the losing streak.
Among the reasons why fans kept coming to the stadium even as the Mets lost games was the presence of Dickey in their team.
Especially in the second half of the season, fans interest in watching Dickey throw innings from the mound grew sharply.
It was because at that time the talks about his being contender for the Cy Young Award for 2012 started to emerge.
The Mets’ fans attended games, hoping that Dickey leaves no stone unturned for being named as the best pitcher from the National League.
Interestingly, Dickey did not disappoint them. He continued with his impressive run of form as his win-loss record improved to a great extent.
Dickey’s performance was enough to make the fans believe that he is going to beat the rest of the contenders for the award easily. As it happened, Gio Gonzalez and others could not stop Dickey from clinching this honour.
Against this backdrop, losing Dickey to Toronto will be disheartening for the Mets’ fans.
They cannot believe going into the next season without a hurler, who fascinated them so much in 2012.
It will take some time before they adjust to the reality, which sees Dickey absence from their team.
Only the time will tell as to what extent the addition of Dickey on Toronto’s roster helps them qualify for the post-season during the 2013 season.
