R.A. Dickey hopeful of contract extension with New York Mets - MLB Update
Just when it appeared as if talks relating to contract extension are about to fail, R.A. Dickey has stated his optimism with regard to the materialisation of something positive.
New York Mets, right now, are engaged in negotiations with their potential free agents namely Dickey and third baseman David Wright.
Dickey has spoken about whether the negotiations underway between the Mets and his agent can result into a renewal of the contract or not. He has repelled the impression that the talks are heading toward their completion without a substantive outcome.
Dickey views the negotiations as very positive so far as he has the belief that they will soon end up ascertaining his retention by the Mets for the upcoming seasons.
Earlier the Mets picked up option on Dickey, which indicated that the club desperately wants to see him on roster. One of the reasons why the talks have taken so long to produce an official announcement of the contract extension can be the money and the
duration of the agreement.
Dickey is a strong candidate for the Cy Young Award this year, the winner of which is to be declared soon. Commenting on his prospects for clinching this glory, he has maintained that by claiming this honour he can bring something to cheer about for the
disgruntled Mets’ fans.
“I think it would put a silver lining on an otherwise sad season. That’s one. Two is it’s something fantastic to celebrate with the fan base,” Dickey said. “I’ll tell you what, I never had an experience like I did in the final three or four games this year,
with people coming to the park and showing their support. To be able to almost as a gift give that back to those guys would be a real treat for me, and it would mean a lot to the whole Mets organization, too.”
Certainly, the fans will be ecstatic to see the hurler of their team being showered such an honour. Becoming the best pitcher in the National League will be amazing for Dickey.
Dickey will be looking forward to the positive outcome of the talks that are going on right now regarding his contract renewal.
