R.A. Dickey looks forward to start in All-Star Game despite problems for catcher Buster Posey - MLB

The idea that the New York Mets’ starter R.A. Dickey may not be allowed to start during the Midsummer Classic has not discouraged him from calling himself a logical starter for the day. Dickey believes that if he can be given the chance as starter; the catcher
will have more time to adjust to his throws. In-turn, his knuckle-balls will be wreaking their full effect on the opponents.
Earlier it was being stated that since his knuckle-balls are difficult to read and the elected two all-star catchers Buster Posey and Carlos Ruiz are unaccustomed to them, the National League All-Star game manager Tony La Russa will be considering other
options.
However, for a 37-year-old pitcher, becoming part of July 10 extravaganzas is one of the most cherished moments of his life. Making the most of the opportunity and displaying his knucklers on a special day is what he is aiming to achieve at the moment. Furthermore,
doing a starting job for the National League is the only way he can do this.
Therefore, he is averse to the idea of having a limited role on the day.
One-hitter games he has been throwing in the season and other distinctions he has pulled off, Dickey is excited to see their replication in Kauffman Stadium.
"I think you have a better shot starting the game, because you get to go through the whole workout routine, the whole warm-up routine, the pregame bullpen -- all that -- before you ever go into the game," said Dickey. "If I'm brought into the game -- because
you only have two catchers now, and Buster Posey hasn't seen me at all -- and all of a sudden here he is with seven warm-up pitches, that's a whole different animal."
Meanwhile, the fact he is growing old and sustaining long in the world of baseball is difficult, can be one of the reasons why he is enthusiastic to start on July 10.
Historically, knuckleballers have not been given many chances during the All-Star Games. This very fact can go against Dickey. In light of this, if Dickey earns the chance, it will not only be surprising but will be fascinating for the fans as well.
