R.A. Dickey not troubled by right wrist after being slammed by a pitch - MLB Update
The New York Mets find their starter R.A. Dickey untroubled by his right wrist after he narrowly escaped an injury the other day. Game against the Miami Marlins was about to render another blow to the Mets’ injury woes in the season as Dickey endured pain
in that area of his arms, which he uses to hurl his knucklers.
The manager Terry Collins was right in being concerned during an immediate reaction to injury. The fact Mike Pelfrey, one of their star starters, has already been lost to an injury, as another one was to be an aggravation of their disaster.
For the same reason, Dickey was called back during the game to make sure anything to his wrist does not grow worse to an uncontrollable level.
Dickey then came back and fortunately moments later started feeling well.
Since there is nothing that one can call severe and worth demanding rest of weeks, he will not be having X-rays.
Commenting on his immediate withdrawal from the ballpark after incident, Dickey said that the idea was to let it heal on its own without disturbing the location anymore.
“It’s better to be precautionary at that stage, so we’ll see how it feels in the morning,” Dickey said.
Dickey calls himself lucky on being hit at such place of his wrist, which will not inhibit revolutions of his arms while throwing.
“I was thankful it hit me on the meatier part of the wrist,” Dickey said. “I got feeling back in my hand pretty quickly.”
Earlier speculations were doing the round about an entry of Mets' Minor League prospect, Matt Harvey in the Majors. The fact the Mets actually needed strong starter at the moment gave life to those speculations.
However, later on higher management dismissed possibility of such a decision and clarified that Harvey will be given more time before he is brought to the Majors.
In this connection, if Dickey had suffered something dangerous and had been put on long Disabled List as a result, the Mets may have been forced to think over Harvey.
For the moment, the Mets will hope Dickey returns and resumes his best at the earliest.
