R.A. Dickey passes physical with Toronto Blue Jays – MLB Update
Former New York Mets ace starter R.A Dickey has passed physical with his new team Toronto Blue Jays as it also made both sides’ deal official. The 2012 Major League Baseball Cy Young winner Dickey was recently traded to Blue Jays on additional seven player
deal.
Not only he was traded into Blue Jays but he was also given extension on his contract which means that Toronto side will pay the knucklballer $25 million in next three seasons.
Mets and Dickey had a roller coaster season in this recent past Major League competition. Dickey alone stood tall against every MLB team while rest of the Mets roster could not produce anything extraordinary.
With his all season long persistent performances, Dickey was honoured with National League Cy Young award at the end of the season. Though it was a huge success for Mets and Dickey not only for their future relationship but this was also a huge success for
New York’s past season’s overall success on the mound.
However, things changed and Mets needed to trade him but still their management negotiated with the Blue Jays that they will extend his contract for another two seasons which they did to land Dickey in their roster. Some say this deal also will help the
Mets as well as they are going to receive some of the best catching prospects Travis d’Arnaud.
Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said on a Monday evening during a conference call, “Were we not able to get the quality in return, I expect R.A. would have remained a Met.”
Alderson added for Travis, “Travis is very close to the major leagues, We view d’Arnaud, and I believe the industry views Travis, as the top catching prospect in the game. We do expect to do some other things, We do expect to acquire some other players.
We’re certainly not punting on 2013.”
“We just felt we were so close to contention, this is a deal we had to make,” Toronto GM Alex Anthopoulos said on his own conference call Sunday.
Experts believe that this recent trade is a healthy sign for Dickey as it will help him explore his more consistence game in the coming days.
