R.A. Dickey repeats desire to stay with New York Mets as trade speculations emerge - MLB Update
As rumours emerge stating that R.A. Dickey may be traded, he has explained that he does not want to leave the New York Mets.
While he understands the kind of situation the club faces in terms of the business limitations, he is of the view that he loves being attached with the Mets.
Dickey has an immense trade value at the moment. The consistency with which he won matches as a starting pitcher this year, numerous organisations will be interested to acquire him.
This fact is very much realised by the Mets. By trading Dickey, they can obtain prospects in the deal that remove their weaknesses in the outfield and the bullpen.
For example, the club urgently needs reliable outfielders, especially after the termination of the contract with their experienced campaigner Jason Bay.
Furthermore, the trade involving Dickey can bring a couple of new players in the team without an outflow of a huge amount of money from the club.
The possibility that the high trade value of Dickey may reduce with the passage of time can be one of the reasons why the Mets consider his unloading from the roster sooner than later.
Ever since Mets’ General Manager Sandy Alderson claimed that trading Dickey remains a part of their options, the starting pitcher has grown conscious of what may happen ahead.
“I understand the business that I’m in,” Dickey said. “I’ve always understood it’s a possibility and there would be no acrimony. It’s not an acrimonious situation. Sandy is doing his due diligence because that’s what he’s paid to do for the New York Mets.
I can hold it the way it’s supposed to be held. I don’t take it personally.”
Dickey realises the constraints of the GM, saying he has to perform his job regardless of whether his decisions affect him favourably or not.
Dickey has further explained that he will have no grudges against Alderson in case he is not awarded the contract extension by him.
The announcement of the Cy Young Award winner from the National League is around the corner. The fact Dickey is a strong candidate for it will makes him a part of the hype preceding the declaration.
Certainly victory for Dickey in the competition of best pitchers can bring some solace for the Mets fans.
