R.A. Dickey talks about knuckleballers struggle – MLB Update
As Toronto Blue Jays’ starting pitcher R.A. Dickey settles in a new Major League franchise, the Toronto media rushed to ask him about the struggle knuckleballers have faced during recent times.
He also talked about the knuckleballs and how it spins. “The only thing you have to do is throw it so it doesn’t spin; it doesn’t matter how you do it,” He said.
Dickey has recently arrived in the Blue Jays roster after spending several years in the New York Mets where he performed with quite consistency and played with aggressive approach. After arriving in the Blue Jays, the nine-year professional baseball player
joined the Blue Jays along with a two year extension. He came into the Blue Jays after both franchises traded some seven players.
“I began showing some consistency with it that I wasn’t showing in 2010,” Dickey said, referring to his stint with the Mets’ Triple-A club in Buffalo, after a brief breakthrough with the Minnesota Twins’ Rochester farm club at the close of 2009.
He added about his career as from where he started and how hard work paid off with more and more achievements, “When I got to Buffalo I felt like what I found in Rochester paid off. I wasn’t thinking about mechanics or where to put my feet on the mound.
It was a much more organic experience for me. Once I was throwing strikes with it consistently, I could think about changing speeds and taking it to different places in the strike zone.”
Last year, with the Mets, he had some tremendous starts. He played consistently throughout the season and achieved consistent numbers. He won many game for the Mets and remained one of the top Mets’ pitchers in the entire season.
Dickey finished the season on high note and achieved 2.73 ERA along with 20-6 win-loss, 230 strikeouts and 1.05 WHIP. His consistent numbers recognised as he won prestigious National League Cy Young award.
On the other hand, he has achieved consistent career numbers as well. So far, he has achieved 3.98 ERA along with 61-56 win-loss, 739 strikeouts and 1.33 WHIP.
