R.A Dickey to test free agency if current talks with New York Mets fail-MLB Update
R.A Dickey has reiterated that he will almost certainly test free agency next year if the on-going talks with New York Mets end up in a deadlock. It is not for the first time that Dickey has threatened to resort to this option.
Even during the initial phase of his current negotiations with the Mets, he made it clear that this offseason is the best opportunity for the New York to lock him up for the upcoming years.
The Mets are taking a huge amount of time in thinking and evaluating various options available for them with regard to Dickey. They do not want to lose Dickey but at the same time they lack the resources to keep him in the clubhouse.
There is another narrative within their organisation, which says trading Dickey in exchange for prospects is a great idea. In this way, the club can remove outfield worries without spending money in the free agent market.
Despite all the alternatives placed in front of the Mets’ officials, they have failed to come up with a consensus on a particular area concerning Dickey.
The weeks have passed including the Baseball Winter Meetings, and yet there is no headway coming off from their negotiations with Dickey.
The time has come now where they are going to decide something concrete.
They just cannot afford to linger on the talks from now onward. With Dickey growing impatient from the way he is being treated by the officials, the Mets cannot have him wait for such a long time.
Dickey appears disheartened after he sees the top management not paying heed to what he is looking for in the deal.
"It's hard," Dickey said. "When people say it's business, it's not personal, well, that just means it's not personal for them. I'm hoping it ends up in a good place, but also in the back of your mind you think it may not. That's sad."
Dickey believes he is not asking above the market price but an amount of money, which genuinely reflects his credentials.
He is hoping that the Mets will come to terms with him soon, without the halt in negotiations.
