R.A Dickey trade allows New York Mets to think long-term-MLB Update
As the Cy Young Award winner, R.A Dickey has been traded, the New York Mets can start a new beginning.
As their General Manager, Sandy Alderson believes, the Mets have the best opportunity to explore free agents after the passage of a few years.
The fact of the matter is that the Mets have acquired a number of quality minor leaguers. Along with them, they have saved sufficient amount of money, after excluding outfielder Jason Bay from their roster.
Besides, they signed contract extension with third baseman David Wright in such a manner that they do not have to pay him a huge amount of money, at least in the next couple of years.
At the end of the 2013 season, the Mets will be in a position to pull off stars from the free agent market by the dint of strong financial standing.
Resultantly, they can challenge oppositions and go on to win division titles.
Indeed, the money has started to accumulate in the coffers of the Mets.
If they can save enough for the future, they have every reason to become one of the formidable opponents in the National League East Division.
The GM Alderson has discussed such a possible reality. He claims after one year or so the constraints that restrict them from signing contracts with high profile players will almost be eliminated.
Alderson has expressed that the time is not far when the Mets will revamp their roster and make the team one of the strongest forces in the Major League Baseball.
“We’ve been trying to put ourselves in position to make it worthwhile to venture into the free-agent market, and we’re just about there,” Sandy Alderson said. “We’re getting out from under some contracts, and the farm system is maturing nicely. We’re on
the cusp of launching an exciting future for the Mets.”
The last couple of years have been unimpressive for the Mets’ fans as financial troubles of the club affected performance of the team immensely.
Even the most conspicuous loopholes were not fixed by the management, because of unavailability of money.
It will be interesting to see how the fans of the club perceive prospects of the team.
