R.A Dickey trade sets New York Mets up for worst performance in 2013 Major League season-MLB Part 2
Even some of their experts stopped short of saying that resolving the outfield issue was the biggest offseason task confronted by the organisation. Yet, they do not have any outfielder even after trading Dickey.
Do they have the financial capacity to pursue the likes of Cody Ross in the free agent market?
If the Mets have the intentions to make sure outfield does not become the cause of their undoing, they have to find someone like Ross.
That also means using internal options should be discouraged, because forcing minor leaguers for big league debut prematurely carries immense risk.
As far as the catching department is concerned, the Mets have lost Josh Thole and added Travis d’Arnaud. More likely, they are going to use d’Arnaud for the Major League.
Though d’Arnaud is touted as the best catching prospect around at the moment, he is not experienced enough.
For example, playing through the season and staying away from the controversies that a player is prone to at the major league level will be tough for him in the beginning.
In short, d’Arnaud is not the kind of catcher what the club that wants a sharp improvement from last year record should have.
General Manager for the Mets, Sandy Alderson appears to be supportive of the idea of getting d’Arnaud make his major league debut in 2013.
“Travis is very close to the major leagues,” Alderson said. “We view d’Arnaud, and I believe the industry views Travis, as the top catching prospect in the game.”
It is not hard to believe that the Mets have compromised over their 2013 campaign after sending Dickey to Toronto. Unfortunately, Alderson is not willing to accept this bitter reality.
He has hopelessly tried to give an impression that the Mets gave Dickey away for a reason.
He has attempted to pretend as if nothing has happened to the probability of their success for 2013, following the exclusion of Dickey.
He sat in the conference as he told the world that he has added quality to the organisation.
“Were we not able to get the quality in return,” Alderson said. “I expect R.A. would have remained a Met.”
Alderson should have been asked about his strategy for the upcoming season. Surely, he will have failed to produce a satisfactory answer before the audience.
He too must be feeling inside his heart the injustice to the expectations of the fans that has been made.
He must be mindful of the poorer than the last season performance that the Mets are going to put up ahead.
One wonders what would be the excitement for the fans as they show up in the stadium during the season.
Apart from David Wright, there would be hardly anyone to look forward to for them.
In a nutshell, the Mets’ fans are better off support other teams as their own club is destined to fail.
