R.A. Dickey will not resort to intentional measures for winning Cy Young Award - MLB Update
The award of the best pitcher in the National League is one of those privileges that a hurler can dream of. The New York Mets’ starter R.A. Dickey is in contention for winning this. However despite wishing to grab the Cy Young Award, the starter has stated
that he will not take deliberate measures for it.
Instead, he likes to play his normal game without keeping the award in mind.
Dickey could not start the All-Star Game as the National League manager Tony La Russa considered Matt Cain more appropriate for doing the job. The decision was the defiance of the fact that Dickey’s record was far better than Cain. Due to this, Dickey had
expressed his disappointment before the game.
In light of this if Dickey can manage to receive the Cy Young Award, it will be justice for him. However, Dickey is unconcerned about what all the fans may think. Instead, he is trying to win as many games for the team as he can. He is looking forward to
repeat his performance in the last start in the forthcoming games. Dickey is a true team player and always puts the needs of the club before his own personal records or awards.
While he can start games on short rest in order to improve his credentials further for winning the award, Dickey is against this idea. If the need arises for the team, he is ready to do it but he will not go by this way with the sole purpose of attaining
the Cy Young Award.
“I don’t want to do it for the sake of doing it,” Dickey said. “I don’t want to do it because that would give me more chances to win more games for a Cy Young. You may or may not get it. No one can tell the future. I don’t think that’s the right way to do
it.”
Therefore, Dickey is focused on following a more natural path. It will be interesting to see if he can add another feather into his cap by achieving the Cy Young Award. It will be exciting to see which pitcher manages to take the prestigious award this year.
