R.M.V Gurusai Datt ousts Hsuan Yi Hsueh in qualifying round of the 2011 Singapore Open Super Series
India’s rising star, R.M.V Gurusai Datt, has managed to win against Chinese Taipei’s Hsuan Yi Hsueh, in the Men’s Singles qualifying round of the 2011 Singapore Open Super Series on Tuesday, June 14, 2011. The event is being staged in Singapore City.
The young Indian delivered a terrific performance against Hsuan Yi in a thrilling three-set contest which took 54 minutes. Gurusai has proved that he has grown to a certain level of maturity in his game, as he has been doing really well for the last six
months.
Gurusai, who is the World Number 62 in the Men’s Singles world standings, played a shaky game in the opening set of the match against Hsuan Yi, who was playing aggressively. The Taipei shuttler kept the Indian moving in all corners of the court.
The Indian made some mistakes by playing a hasty game, which put him far behind his opponent on the score board. At the interval in the first-half, Gurusai was three points behind his rival at 8-11. After the interval, he worked hard to reduce the gap but
failed to place his strokes in the right areas. He lost the first game with a five-point deficit of 16-21, in 18 minutes.
Gurusai made an impressive comeback in the second game by playing with more variations in his strokes. He took a prompt advantage in the first part of the opening set, where he was leading at 11-9.
Hsuan worked well in the later part of the set, but could not stop the aggressive run of the Indian, who clinched the second set with a little margin of 21-18, in 21 minutes.
In the third game, the Indian proved that he is determined to win the fight, as he spared no opportunity for his challenger to fight back in the game. Gurusai finished the final game in a surprising manner in just 15 minutes, with a one-sided score of 21-12.
The 54-minute rubber-set encounter ended with the 16-21, 21-18 and 21-12 score on the board.
