India’s passionate shuttler R.M.V Gurusaidutt eases into the next stage of Men’s Singles qualifying round after beating Canada’s NG Toby in the 2011 Hong Kong Open Super Series, in Hong Kong, on Tuesday, November 15.
The top seed in the qualifying round Gurusaidutt, who is currently having the 52nd position in the Men’s Singles world ranking, wasted no time in the court and finished the match in straight sets by taking just 16 minutes. The Indian emerged as
the winner without facing any problem from the Canadian in both sets.
In the first set of the match, the in-form Indian opened his campaign against Toby in a tremendous fashion as he quickly made a wonderful lead in a flash. He remained in wonderful control of the bird and was dictating the pace of the rallies in an impressive
way.
The elevated skills of Gurusaidutt coupled with his aggressive approach earned him a considerable advantage over the Canadian, who was trailing behind throughout the opening half of the set. Until the interval, Gurusaidutt was leading the game with an unbelievable
score of 11-2.
After the break, the spirited Indian remained on the right track by playing at the same high speed. He was moving in the court with an incredible speed and taking the bird quite early from all areas, which earned him so many choices to place his strokes.
The Canadian completely failed to put up good show as he was lacking the power and finishing touch in his strokes. The Indian took the first game with an incredible score of 21-4 by taking just 7 minutes in court.
In the following set of the match, the higher ranked Indian again dictated the pace of the rallies and kept his opponent moving in all corners of the court. Gurusaidutt was playing top class badminton against Toby and remained focused throughout the second
game.
Gurusaidutt finished up the second set of the match with an impressive score of 21-7 in just 9 minutes.
This 16-minute qualifying-round battle ended in the favour of Gurusaidutt, who out classed his Canadian challenger in straight games by a 21-4 and 21-7 margin on the score board.
