R.M.V Gurusaidutt enters into Men’s Singles quarter-final: 2011 Vietnam Open Grand Prix
India’s R.M.V Gurusaidutt extended his winning streak and occupied a quarter-final place after defeating higher ranked, Jen Hao Hsu of Chinese Taipei in the Men’s Singles pre-quarter-final at the 2011 Vietnam Open Grand Prix in Vietnam, on Thursday, August
25.
The Indian displayed his skills against the Taipei shuttler in terrific fashion by playing aggressive and perfect badminton. Gurusaidutt has improved a lot during the last one year by working hard in training sessions. He finished off the match against Jen
Hao in three games by taking 70 minutes.
It was one of the best fights of the day as both shuttlers are quite talented, possessing elite skills of badminton. Gurusaidutt opened the game in a stunning manner by showing no respect to his opponent in the opening part of the first set. He reached at
11-6 without facing any sort of resistance from the Taipei shuttler, who was playing a defensive game.
After the interval, the Indian continued his killing run in the match by putting more pressure on his challenger through his powerful smashes. He got the advantage in the match by winning the opening set with a dramatic score of 21-10, in 18 minutes.
Stung by the Indian’s severe treatment in the opening set, a firing Jen Hao made a strong comeback in the second game. He played a completely different game this time and kept his rival away from the net. Gurusaidutt failed to execute his superb net strokes
as his opponent was pushing him in a defensive position by working better at the net. The Indian lost the second game to Jen Hao with a 17-21 score, in 25 minutes.
The final set of the match was more thrilling when compared to previous both sets as both shuttlers remained close until the concluding points of the match. However, it was Gurusaidutt who played smart badminton at the end and won the game with a tight 21-19
margin, in 27 minutes. The end result of this 70-minute three-set contest was 21-10, 17-21 and 21-19.
