Question:

R&P: How do you feel about the use of the word rockstar?

For example, Miley Cyrus or Hannah Montana have a song that goes something along the lines of "I might even be a rock star." Even though it's clear she is nothing more then a manufactured pop star. Or the many hip hop acts that reference "rock star lifestyle" or that they "might even be" rock stars. Or the fact that people consider Nickelback rock? Has the word rock/rock star lost it's meaning?

  1. Rockstars are the 80's classic rock people - well to me

Miley is a One hit wonder pop singer/child star that is only famous cos of her dad that only appears on tv when Vh1 is counting down 'most annoying songs we used to love'

stupid ***** can suck my tittties.

  2. Lol, Nickelback! I giggle every time I hear about that song!

    I don't care, really.

It's trend music, it's popular for a while then it's gets old in like a month.

  3. If someone says it, they are a poser.

  4. I hate it, way overused

  5. I hate that word. About 9 out of 10 times it doesn't refer to actual rockers.

  7. The word's lost its original meaning-  A musician who plays rock and roll music.  For me it means someone who:

    1.  Dresses differently than the norm

    2.  Has so much money they wouldn't think twice about buying a diamond-studded Lamborghini.

    3.  Plays an instrument, sings, or raps to make money.  Quality or skill not accounting.

    4.  Has been seen in People/Us/National Enquirer/Whatever at least once.

  8. it dont mean the same to me as it did before. they say everyone is a rockstar today.

  9. oh god i hate the word rockstar.people sound like idiots when they call themselves that,or anyone else for that matter.also when ppl ask me what kind of music i like it feels kinda retarded to me to say rock.it sounds like youre tryin to be somebody else.idk.i also hate when ppl say "you rock" it sounds so commercailized and screwed up.

  10. they word lost its meaning half those people are the reason

  11. i love the R-Kelly && Ludacris version

but if i hear the nickelback one, i go crazy

that was too overplayed and the song got annoying.

even though i love nickelback, that's their worst song!

  12. It's pretty much lost it's original meaning and now just refers to anyone who's living large. It's actually become an outdated word, so it's really nothing to get excited about.

We have such low expectations for what passes as a star these days, you'd think a real star would have several hit albums and a few solid singles before we started calling them rockstars. The whole industry has changed and become dependant on disposasble pop music, sold to the masses in a few weeks and then forgotten. Maybe the word POPSLUG should be used for people who work that genre, and return ROCKSTAR to the ones who've really earned it.

  13. I don't like people going around and calling themselves "rockstars".  All of those types of songs in my opinion spoof rockstars themselves.  Personally, I don't even like the term "rockstar".  It sounds too commercial to me.  The word "rocker" sounds like something a real rock fan would call himself.

  14. just aint the same dude, just aint the same....

bring back the s*x drugs and rock n roll

  15. I hate how ''Rockstar'' is just being thrown around now a days....As if it didn't have a meaning.
