R&P: Were any of your parents hippies? Or were you?

My mom was... my dad on the other hand... he was a clean-cut, academic student from MIT. He disapproved of hippies. I wish I had been alive back then, I would have been such a hippie. Well, I still am, even in the 21st century.

Anyway... just curious :) Any good stories?

  1. no and h**l no

  2. My dad was a hippie rock n roller from the slums while my mom was this straight edge, catholic girl.

I think i was born in the wrong decade..

  3. Ugh me parents weren't hippies..they were more into the disco era *shudders* [although i DO enjoy some disco xD]

Well, I try to be a hippie..although I don't smoke mary jane or do any drugs or have s*x, i still follow the "peace and love" ways

    and i listen to 60s music :]

  4. My dad was. In the 70's.

    I heart my daddy.

  5. No, hippies were before my parents' time. I'm only 14, my parents were kids in the 60's and 70's in the hippie era. They were in their 20's during the 80's, so that's more the kind of music they're into.

  6. well... kinda. my dad was and is a TOTAL deadhead (the grateful dead is his fav band) and my mom has a jerry bear tattoo. but my dads in the navy. thats kind of un-hippieish. lol

my grandma said i should have been alive then... i would have been a hippie =]

  7. Yep. My mom was a Go-Go dancer and my dad was a motorcycle riding hippie. Now I think of it he kind of still is HAHAH...unfortunately my mom's health is bad off and she can't "get down" on the dancefloor like she used to.

My mother lived with Janis Joplin's "Big Brother" band for a while, I believe in Georgia. My dad hung out with Hunter S Thompson a couple times, but says he didn't like him.

  8. Nah, my parents were both hippie haters. But I consider myself a "neo-hippie", and I also wish that I had been alive in the sixties. Sometimes I honestly think that I was born into the wrong body, probably because my ideals aren't as popular now as they were in the sixties. Yup.

  9. It depends on what you classify as "hippie"...my mom definitely wasn't. My dad..maybe. He did the drugs and drank the alcohol and went to many concerts wore blue jeans and had long hair (I suppose that might count for something)

  10. Nope. My grandpa hated hippies. =/

  11. a teenager in 1969,Iwas. My older sister, who is five years olderthen me.spend her teen-age years.Listen to Beatles started dressing like, now I look back on  it,a hippy. But back then I thought she lost her mind. She will visit me this Labor Day weekend.

  12. none of my parents.

My mom says My uncle was ??

I wish i was born in the sixties. too bad

  13. Mom was such a hippie than on the day she met my dad (for a job interview no less !!) she didn't get the position 'cause she'd had too many marijuana filled brownies b4hand

My riding a bicycle to college while living in Texas (whether if the heat index is 115 or it's raining cats and dogs) is considered hippie-ish by some.

  14. My grandma was when she was young, but I'm more of a headbanger.

  15. My mom wasn't, but my dad spent two years as a bum in Europe sleeping on park benches, lol.

As for me, if you are asking if I ride my bike, recycle, wear tie die, eat tofu and granola, routinely listen to "Peace Train" and have long hair, I would say yes to all but make an exception for the last element as I cut my hair this summer so it is currently short  :P

Okay, and I will confess I do own Time Life's "70's Music Explosion". There, I said it  :P

  16. Yeah.

I had a big hippie family for a while. I've seen pictures of old grams back in the days and I couldn't even recognize her.
