Well, if poeple are going to shoot down "Stairwary to Heaven" because -

It IS OVERPLAYED - NAWT Overrated. - It was FM DJ's that made it the number one song of AOR.

Then My Choice would be either --

COCAINE or TEARS IN HEAVEN by the "OVERRATED" Clapton LOL

for over-rated I have to say enter sandman by metallica, I don't know what it is but I never liked it, i'd much rather hear one or master of puppets

for underrated... forsaken by with blood comes cleansing... I guarantee you haven't heard it... unless your a christian death metal fan like me...but yeah, good song

I love Led Zeppelin, but Stairway to Heaven is THE most over-rated song that I could possibly think of.

Under-rated - anything by Montrose or Thin Lizzy.

Overrated: Bon Jovi any song.

Underrated: Arcade Fire.  Probably 10 thousand independent bands that can't get a record deal.

Stairway to Heaven isn't overrated, just overplayed.  And those bands you mention in the question are simply crappy... maybe a bit overrated too.  But who actually rates Pussycat Dolls as "good"?

The first thing that popped into my mind was Stairway to Heaven, but then it dawned on me that Smoke on the Water is probably further away from Deep Purple's best than Stairway is from Zeppelin's, so I'll go with Smoke on the Water.

For underrated, pick any deep track off of any classic rock or metal album, play it, look at the faces of the uneducated masses when they don't know who it is because it isn't on the radio, and you will find that it's one great big tie.

Like Welcome to the Jungle, Stairway to Heaven, Smoke on the Water, Rock n' Roll all Nite, Sweet Home Alabama (come on Freebird is better!), and like I said, anything Guitar Hero I, II, or III.

Heck, I know a couple people who say they are "rockers" and, well, listen to nothing other than Guitar Hero.

Hands down, it's Ricky Martin's "Livin La Vida Loca"  Overrated AND seriously overplayed

I don't think I can give you an underrated song.  So many good ones by good artists that don't get enough attention.  But now that you mention it, songs by Iggy Pop come into mind.
