R&R crossing?

If you stop at a R&R crossing because there are flashing red lights, but you look both ways and do not see or hear a train, what do you do? Do you cross or stay put?

This question assumes you have no barriers keeping you from crossing.

  1. I wait until the gates are back up and the lights are off. Train or not, it is illegal in every state to cross a railroad track when the gates are down and/or the red lights are flashing. Also, just because no train is in sight, that doesn't mean that one is not approaching the crossing.

    Note...red means STOP.

  2. Stay put until the lights stop flashing and all is clear.

  3. well I think the law states that you are not supposed to cross the road, but I do it all the time as long as I can get across safely of course.
