Okay well me and two of my good friends from high school all went Army after graduating. My buddy got shipped straight to Iraq coming out of boot and schooling. He get's R&R in December, he's really excited but what's the chances of him actually coming home in December? I really want answers from people who actually have had R&R while being in Iraq. Thanks.

  1. Well *I* didn't get R&R, but my husband just left about a week and a half ago to go back to Iraq after R&R.  This is his third Iraq deployment and the second deployment which he got R&R.  (The first time R&R was really rare)

Everyone gets R&R if they want it.  In a 12 month deployment, you get 15 days.  The BIG question isn't IF he'll get it, it's WHEN.  Those dates are not set in stone and they can change.

My husband is doing a 15 month tour this time.  We originally had it set for May, and someone in his unit needed to go home on Emergency Leave, so my husband gave up his spot and he came hom e in July and left in early August instead.

So he'll definitely get R&R, and hopefully it holds to December, but you never know...

  2. Majority of the time R&R will happen. We had 3500 hundred in our brigade and all but a select few were able to come home. Really depends on when they are coming home for good, when we got about 1 month out of our estimated ship out date they terminated leave. Also sometimes soldiers can get bumped because of another soldier having to take emergency leave, it just depends. Hope he gets to come home and thanks.
