It was Michael against Satan/Lucifer. Gabriel is lower in rank than Michael and Satan/Lucifer and his responsibilities are completely different than Michael's. Considering that Lucifer/Satan was cast out of heaven and will eventually be forever condemned to the Lake of Fire, who do you think is smarter?
