  1. sulcatta, the african spurr thighed, spur thighed sulcatta, african spurr thighed sulcatta, is all the same tortoise with fifty different names. lol.

its the same tortoise that grows to be the third largest tortoise in the world.

  2. The African SPURRED Tortoise, Geochelone sulcata, is the same as the Sulcata Tortoise.

The confusion comes with a tortoise from the Mediterranean- the Greek Tortoise, more properly called the Mediterranean SPUR-THIGHED Tortoise.

If you want to get REALLY confused, try to untangle the Greek, Spur-thighed, and Iberian Tortoise bit!

  3. there is a lot of confusion but the sulcata is the African spur thighed,  people call them African spur thigh after where they come from and the fact they have spurs  by their back legs,  the name sulcata comes from their proper name Geochelone sulcata, i have a Mediterranean spur thigh now trying to separate all those is more confusing

  4. Pretty much, yes.

There are some other tortoises who have "spur" in their name so it can be confusing, best way to go really is by latin names.

Yes though they are the same thing, it can be confusing, you'll get the hang of it.
