No. Thugs are wannabe Gangsters. Don't see why people want to be either, it's not cool, it's childish and lame.

I guess this is a geography question; east side, west side and all that.  Anyways, no, a gangster and a thug are different.  A thug could just be any punk who does criminal acts to get by.  A thug could be a guy robbing a convenience store by himself.  A gangster, as the name implies, has to be a part of a gang, whether it's the mafia, or the bloods, or MS-13, doesn't matter.  So, technically, the definitions of thug and gangster overlap, but a gangster MUST be in a gang for the definition to apply.  People get this c**p mixed up all the time.
