  1. Usually the manual is faster in acceleration and top speed.  But lately the newer auto has shown to be faster than the manual (MUSTANG auto tranny).

But if you are not really good at driving the manual (most people -even the hot shots), the auto is faster.  There's just too much room for s******g up the shift.

    Good Luck...

  2. Not necessarily.  Maybe when you take off from a stop you can pull ahead a little because you can push your engine harder before you upshift unlike an automatic which will shift once you hit a certain RPM. You'll see that some cars get better fuel economy when it's in manual compared to an automatic of the same model.  That's because with a manual, you get to control when you shift into the next gear.  Automatics automatically upshift/downshift for you when it reaches a certain RPM but that's not necessarily the best or most efficient time to shift.  But technically, top speed on either car should be the same, the transmission won't make a difference.  In the real world, you'll never need to go THAT fast in a car...even if you could, how far can you travel before you end up behind someone or at the next light.  Save your cash and buy a fun and economical car instead of a gas guzzling speedster.

  3. The big difference is driving fun. With a manual your able to be more aggressive and a auto the shifting is per the power band.A manual will give you more MPG depending on driving habits.Good Luck.

  4. IT used to be that a lot of the power was lost in the extra transmission of the auto's and there was a lot of auto clutch lag and the extra weight of the auto transmission all combined to create a gid difference. However nowadays the auto boxes are better, lighter and faster, especially the dual clutch versions on VW's and BMW's.

  5. Manuals usually are capable of being slightly faster than an auto, but automatics are more consistent (talking 1/4mile times).  Autos are easier to launch.  Manuals are better for roll racing.

  6. It depends on the driver more than the car. Most automatic transmissions can be shifted "manually" or left in the drive position for automatic gear selection at the pre-selected RPM. This gives the driver an option to get a little more performance out of the car.
