It is certainly a possibility, although in my estimation it is an extremely remote one.  Much more plausible, but still very remote, is the possibility that we are the only "intelligent" species here.

Our best evidence indicates that life appeared on the earth very soon after the surface cooled to a livable temperature, indicating that life develops readily in good conditions.  Seeding from space is a possibility, however; our sun is one of a series of stars and debris from former planets may contain the seeds of life.  If life was seeded from meteors, then it has had substantially more time to get started.  The universe is over 13 billion years old, compared to a window of hundreds of millions of years for life starting from scratch on the surface of this earth.

The other things to consider are the laundry list of happy accidents that made/make this planet an incubator of (quasi-) intelligence, and the fact that we are not currently finding EM signals in the sky.  Perhaps intelligent life tends to extinguish itself before it becomes a viable extra-planetary civilization.  And here we sit, with our eggs in one little basket.

But anyone further than about a hundred light years away will not have any idea we are here. Why do you think that might be?

Well it's pretty ignorant to assume that earth is the only planet with life on it. Especially when you factor in the entire universe. Honestly it's more likely that it's impossible for us to be the only ones.

Have you ever seen how small our world is compared to the whole universe? Surely there must be other beings in other planets / galaxies of this universe
