I'm planning to join the RAF and I was wondering when the intake is and what happens in between you going to the Forces careers office and then beginning training are you paid the training salary or do you start your salary when you begin your initial training.

  1. Depending what role you want depends on what happens. Unless you're going for the regiment you'll do 9 weeks at Halton first, best ask your AFCO. I joined the regiment so I was at Honnington, they got me on that quickly. Maybe 2 months from application to training.

  2. the intakes aren't on set days although they are planned it all depends on how people they need and the training slots at cranwell. You start your salary on the first day of training. Only the careers office can tell you and even they might not know probably several months.

  3. you are not paid until you start your initial training, which is 9 weeks at RAF Halton, followed by a 10 week leadership course
