Question:

RAM stick suddenly gone bad?

I was running Windows XP on three memory sticks, (1GB, 256MB, 256MB) and then one day I started having problems booting Windows. It would continue booting after the logo and then it will give me a flash of the desktop and restart itself. I then removed the two 256MB RAM sticks and booted fine with just the 1GB RAM stick. I then booted with 1GB & 256MB and also booted fine. It was when I added the third 256MB RAM stick that failed. Could this be a bad RAM? But it was working fine and now is not. Could RAM give out like this?

  1. Take it out, put a white eraser to the bottom of the connectors. It will clean and "erase" it. (Lightly put the eraser to it).... then put it back in and see if it works.

the reason could also be because they 2 256 ones are running in sync and the 1 G one is giving it trouble, so best advice is jus keep the 1 G one in and buy another 1G one the same brand to run togeather to give you 2G RAM. This is your best bet,

  2. Yes definately RAM i had a bit of the same problem were windows just wouldn't boot up at all.

  3. Yes, RAM can just go bad. That is almost definitely your problem.

  4. If it worked before then fudged out on you then it is either the socket ie motherboard that is faulty or more likely the power supply. Maybe there was an energy spike and it fudged one of your thingies

  5. It's dead. Get a new one.
