  1. 3 possible reasons.

1: how much ram can your computer have.

2: mother board does not recognize it.

3: update not done on bios.

Have you done all the recommended updates on your computer.

Go to manufacture, there should be a list there.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Which motherboard do you have?

  3. Many motherboards have trouble with four sticks of ram.  My P5W-DH also shows 3007 Gigs when four 1 Gig sticks of Crucial are used, even with the latest BIOS. So maybe it's an issue with the 965 and 975 chipsets.  However the same P5W properly recognizes the four sticks of OCZ Platinum that are in the system now, and the four Crucial dimms are just fine in an Asus P5K (P35 chipset.)

Yes try upgrading the BIOS, but in the end you may have to switch to different RAM or MB.

How much memory is shown in BIOS has no connection on Earth with the operating system used on the rig, some people seem to have that misapprehension

  4. Depending how computer savvy you are check into your BIOS version (check for updates from your motherboard manufacture)

Generally hit their website and take a look.

It probably is stemming from your motherboard now allowing the configuration of the last Gig.

I would take a look into BIOS (DEL key as the computer is booting up) to make sure its not a setting you have miss-configured.

Again, only attempt this if you know/comfortable with what you're doing.

  5. Check the mannual of your motherboard to see if it supports 4GB of RAM.

One more thing, if im not mistaken you cannot give 12 points for a best answer. As far as I know it has been always 10.

  6. there is a lot of debate about it some say its because system resources are using that other gig i get the same thing with my 32 bit XP pro i got 4 GB in which my motherboard supports but only 3.12 show. If you upgrade your motherboard to one that can support more then 4 GB you should see all of it cause i just worked on a coworkers laptop who has 4 GB with vista 64 and it showed all 4 GBs. yeah i just looked up your mobo you really need an upgrade that thing doesn't even use DDR2
