RB Adrian Peterson ready to take field for Minnesota Vikings in new season - NFL News
Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is healing surprisingly well from his knee injury and is looking forward to making a return at the start of the new National Football League (NFL) season.
Peterson, who tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) on December 24th was in for a long rehabilitation with serious doubts over his participation at the start of the new season.
However, the 26-year-old running back showed amazing healing abilities and is now making quick progress to full fitness.
Speaking in a radio interview Peterson said.
"Right now my goal is to be back by the first, the regular-season opener. That's my goal."
With Peterson out of the line up, Minnesota Vikings struggled throughout the season for results and with a defence also not performing at its best, the Vikings ended up with a poor 3-13 finish.
The 3-13 record matched the franchise’s worst season finish in its entire history.
Peterson said that the team suffered in both aspects of the game this season and wants the Vikings to be active in this season’s drafts.
“We’re hurting in so many areas, offensively and defensively, I don’t think we can go wrong,” Peterson said.
The running back had already suffered from knee injuries during the season and rushed his return to the team leading to the current ACL injury.
This time though Peterson knows he is recovering fast but will not risk anything. He said during the interview
"Ultimately, I've got to make sure I am 100 percent before I get back out there. It's going good so far."
The Vikings will hope that Peterson remains fit for the entirety of the new season. The running back even with his injury problems remained the Vikings best player in offence.
The 26-year-old rushed for a total of 970-yards from 208 attempts scoring 12 touchdowns for Minnesota. He also made 18 receptions for a gain of 139-receiving yards and a single touchdown.
The Vikings had before the start of 2011-12 season gave Peterson a new $ 100 million contract for seven season which made him the best paid player in the NFL at running back.
Minnesota will now hope to get bigger and better returns from an injury free Peterson in the new season.
