RB Chris Johnson defying odds to play in Tennessee Titans versus Jacksonville Jaguars – NFL News
The Tennessee Titans have avoided confirming running back Chris Johnson for Sunday (Dec. 30) game versus the Jacksonville Jaguars as the player makes desperate attempts to play on the weekend to try achieving the milestone of 7,000 rushing yards in the past
five consecutive seasons.
Chris, suffering an ankle injury, needs another 168 yards to hit the record and except for the injury problem he is most likely to achieve that.
First, Johnson as a player is capable of achieving the milestone, almost all analysts agree to it. He has proven this many times before and given that he has a target in front of him this time, he is more likely to put extra effort in it and do that.
Second, the Jags are the second worst defence, ranked at 31st in the league, against the run offence and they could be exposed to their weakness on the day by Johnson and other offensive crop of the Titans.
A worry that the Titans face on the weekend is that the Jags have beaten them in the last game of the season. So, their confidence level must be very high, although there is no guarantee they still can hold the nerve and go on to beat the hosts again.
With regard to the injury scare, Johnson is not hundred percent about his ankle, although upbeat about his participation chances. He missed the team's practice earlier in the week and showed up on Friday for a limited workout.
As a precaution the Titans have left him as questionable for the weekend, although coach Mike Munchak has backed the RB to play the game. The coach said he knows the importance of the game for Johnson and he wishes him achievement of the record.
Since the Titans are already eliminated from the playoffs, Johnson does not have any action whatsoever after this game in the offseason. So it is better for him to take a gamble and try matching the figure of 7,000 yards.
It is certain that the RB stands exposed to risking his injury but will have plenty of time for healing and rehab after the season.
