RB Chris Johnson says fits in Tennessee Titans’ pass-first offence philosophy – NFL News
Tennessee Titans’ running back Chris Johnson has rebuked the impression of being a misfit in the team’s opened up passing game offence, which is going to be led by either incumbent quarterback Matt Hasselbeck or emerging leader Jake Locker and is studded
with stars like Jared Cook, Nate Washington and others.
Chris, who was dubbed ‘CJ2K’ for his superb performance in 2009 when he recorded 2,006 passing yards, has been struggling to match the level since signing a $53 million deal last year. He ended the past season at the career-low 1047 yards.
He insists he is on the rebound this year and discarded reports that he is increasingly becoming a misfit for the team’s offence as some of other guys have shown to be equally good and ready to take his place.
The RB said he fits in the team’s pass-first strategy and expects to benefit himself as well as the team in the scheme.
Chris said:
"If they throw the ball well, it can help me because it will back some of those guys out of the box. I feel like that's not a bad thing for me. I feel like it's a good thing."
He added:
"I feel like everything is going in the right direction. I'm out here working a lot and trying to get better every day. I felt like I went through a lot of things (last year). I didn't have training camp and showed up a couple of days before the first game."
Johnson so far had a good training camp and is backed by the teammates for a better run on the field this season.
Hasselbeck said Johnson looked great at the camp. He said the next step for the RB is to increase his involvement in the passing game, which he is expected to do during remaining days of the camp.
It is reported that coach Mike Munchak plans to give more carries to Johnson at the camp and later in the preseason. The player apparently did not receive enough carries during training last year and this is one of the reasons affecting his performance overall.
