RB Derrick Ward aims for another team after Houston Texans’ release -NFL News
Running back, Derrick Ward, has made himself available in the market following his release by Houston Texans.
Ward confirmed through his tweet on Monday, June 04, that the Houston Texans declined his re-signing to the roster.
The move looked to be inevitable, following the signing of running back, Justin Forsett, by Texans on June 02.
Derrick, in his tweet, went on to claim that Texans released him because they claimed he lacked skills for the special teams position, which he has disputed.
He has referred to his stint with the New York Giants from 2004 to 2007, where he had opportunities to perform on the position and even led the National Football League (NFL) with 27.3 yards per return in 2004.
The RB wrote:
“Was just told I didnt get resigned because I don't play special teams? Humm check 2004-2007 stats special teams demon. Oh well. ?#NextUp?”
He is now exploring prospects of moving elsewhere in the league but expected to be through some uncertainty before finding a destination.
Some commentators believe it will be very difficult for the player at the age of 32 to find a team at this juncture, with the training camp just around the corner.
Also, they note that the player after having hit the peak of his career in 2008, which turned out to be the best of his career, has gone significantly down in his form.
They pinpoint the average of 3.4 yards on 45 carries in 2011, while playing behind Arian Foster and Ben Tate to be a record that dampens the player’s potential of moving to another team conveniently.
Regardless of their viewpoint, the player remains hopeful of finding another employer sooner or later, which should also determine the future of the player in the NFL in the long run.
Texans management has so far opted to keep quiet on the entire development of the player’s exit, let alone the controversy behind cutting him lose from his contract.
His stint with the team is spanned over two years.
