RB Fred Jackson, his agent Ron Raccuia hopeful of winning new deal from Buffalo Bills-NFL News
Buffalo Bills’ running back, Fred Jackson, and his agent, Ron Raccuia, strongly believe that the general manager, Buddy Nix, will honour his words of landing a new deal for the player.
The present four-year deal that Jackson signed with Bills in 2009 has entered into the final year of its stipulated period and the player is reported to be keen on winning an extension to it.
Both, the player and his agent, have spoken of their respective optimism and hopes, stemming out of a recent statement by the GM, about the new deal.
Even though the management has not said anything in response to the lately expressed re-signing ambitions, Nix, in one his earlier statements, had said the team was interested in re-signing Jackson.
Buddy Nix said:
“Fred and I have visited a couple of times. Fred has been vocal some about wanting a new deal and that kind of thing so finally I called him in and we talked twice. I told him we’re going to offer you an extension. We had priorities with guys that were unrestricted
that we didn’t want to lose.”
It is not clear that the situation remains as much conducive as it was before the signing of another RB by Bills. The team confirmed to have re-signed Tashard Choice on an undisclosed contract, after he played six games for them in past season, replacing
no one other than Jackson himself.
Jackson has been out of the team since week 11 of the 2011 National Football League (NFL) regular season due to a fractured fibula and the situation around prospects of his return in presence of Choice has rather become complicated.
With the statement from the GM, the player and his agent are hopeful of negotiating a deal with the management sooner or later.
His agent, Ron Raccuia, said:
"Buddy Nix has been honest and consistent with us all along. I'm confident talks will get started in the next couple of months."
The team has recently splashed out $96 million on a six-year deal for linebacker, Mario Williams, and another $27 million on a four-year contract for pass-rush specialist, Mark Anderson. In the meantime, value, tenure and other terms of Choice’s deal remain
unknown.
It is not clear if the team has more room left on the pay roster and how much they are willing to spend on Jackson’s deal, after making those hefty payouts.
Jackson is due to make $1.95 million in the last year of his previously signed four-year contract.
It will be very difficult for both sides to agree to fresh terms if the player’s demand is well higher from the amount he had earned from his previous deal with Bills.
Except for the GM’s assurance of re-signing the player well before start of the training camp in summer this year, the management has refrained from speculating a timeline for negotiations and signing of the prospective deal.
