RB Jonathan Grimes signs for Jacksonville Jaguars to replace injured Maurice Jones-Drew – NFL News
May be it is not too late for the Jacksonville Jaguars to avoid season ending on the worst ever record of 2-14 and in view of this consideration the team has rightly been making changes to consolidate strength of their squad to attempt a miraculous win versus
the tougher opponents the New England Patriots on Sunday.
In an update on Saturday (Dec.22) the team confirmed to have signed running back Jonathan Grimes off the Houston Texans’ waivers. Terms of his contract, including value and tenure, were not made public by either of the sides.
Grimes is expected to replace star running back Maurice Jones-Drew who is out of the side with a foot injury for last eight consecutive weeks. Although coach Mike Mularkey confirmed that Maurice status had been updated from highly questionable to questionable,
according to some commentators, realistically there is a little hope for his comeback on the weekend.
The Jags are also missing absence of their other star RB Rashad Jennings who has suffered a concussion and shoulder injury, and was confirmed out of the squad picked up for Patriots' game this weekend.
Meanwhile, the team is also out without backups Jordan Todman and Jalen Parmele. Both of them are placed on the injured reserve list, and the season is certainly over for them.
With only two wins on the board, the Jags are planning to go out on the field and try winning the remaining two games of the season. If somehow they manage to achieve that it will help them end the current season at the note of 4-12, at par with their previous
worst record.
Grimes who has played six games for the Texans is expected to compensate for the loss of Jones-Drew and Jennings, although winning against the Patriots might not happen at all. According to all pregame analyses, odds are in favour of the Patriots and looking
at their record of the season, the Jags have a very remote chance for a victory over them. It will be a major upset of the season, if they do so.
