RB Matt Forte not close to return as Bears prep for Seahawks visit – NFL News
Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte is no closer to a return this Sunday as the Bears prepare to face Seattle Seahawks at the Soldier Field.
The Bears who are on a three-game losing streak have a must-win game this weekend. A loss will virtually eliminate them from the playoff race. Coach Lovie Smith who supervised Wednesday’s practice session was less than straightforward
with his assessment of when the running back might be available again.
"I wish I could [elaborate more]," Smith said. "Progress [is] being made. He's better today than he was yesterday. I'm not trying to run around your question, but that's about all I can give you. He's doing more things. He's looking
better. But that's about all we can go on."
Forte told reporters that he would not be able to take the field Sunday as the knee sprain is yet to heal.
"It's a process, you know," Forte said. "Injuries just don't heal overnight."
Forte succumbed to the injury during a 10-3 loss against Kansas City Chiefs in week 13. He took a Platelet Rich Plasma injection to speed up the healing process. However, the running back feels that he is recovering but is not
fit enough to take to the ground.
Alongside injured quarterback Jay Cutler, Forte was in great form this season. The 26-year old has scored three touchdowns from 223 rushing attempts as he covered 997 yards. Forte needs only three more rushing yards to get his
second straight 1000 plus yard season and the third of his career.
The Bears at 7-6 are outsiders with a small chance of making the postseason. Before injuries sidelined Jay Cutler and Matt Forte, the franchise was on a five-game run and a shoo-in to reach the playoffs. Yet poor performances and
injuries to star players have taken their toll.
A loss to the resurgent Seahawks will be unthinkable for the Bears fans and the coach is under pressure to deliver a win that will keep the playoff hopes alive.
