RB Rashard Mendenhall’s return to boost Pittsburgh Steelers against Baltimore Ravens - NFL News
The Pittsburgh Steelers get boost just ahead of their Baltimore Ravens’ game as running back Rashard Mendenhall, who took part in all practice sessions this week, appears to have fully recovered from an Achilles injury.
Although the Steelers are yet to confirm inclusion of Rashard in the squad officially, some of teammates who saw the RB working at the training sessions have endorsed his health and fitness level.
Running back Isaac Redman said:
"He looks like he's back to his old form. He's making all the cuts, it looks like he has his burst. So he looks good."
He added:
"All three of us are going to play. And we're just going to keep it rolling throughout the game and try to keep a fresh running back in there at all times. We're going to try to pound them."
Rashard has missed all last four games the Steelers have won. He suffered the torn Achilles tendon injury during offseason but returned to squad for initial couple of games. He aggravated his injury and went out to be on the sidelines for next four successive
ties.
Now he seems to have recovered from the injury and after the entire week of hectic drills did not suffer any setback, which should be good news for him and the team.
The expected return of Rashard comes on the heels of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s absence from the weekend game because of his rib and shoulder injuries.
It is a major setback to the Steelers’ side given their record is not good against the Ravens. Historically, they have never won any game against the Ravens without Ben in the side and without him it will be difficult for them to beat them this time.
It is one of the crucial ties for the Steelers after they managed to recover from two early losses to record four consecutive wins to improve at 6-3 in the American Football Conference (AFC) North, just behind the Baltimore Ravens (7-2).
This is a good opportunity for the Steelers to inflict a loss on the visitors and equalise with them 7-3 on the points table. The Ravens at the moment maintain a record of 7-2 so with the loss they will go down 7-3 and with a win the Steelers can catch up
with them.
However, the Steelers’ injury scares do not bode well with their aims of a win over the arch rivals. Last year, the Steelers lost against the Ravens twice and the latter also took away tiebreaker advantage from them.
