RB Trent Richardson backs Cleveland Browns challenge New York Giants – NFL News
Cleveland Browns talented rookie running back Trent Richardson has warily sounded confident about running through New York Giants defences this Sunday in a road game, although his participation in the game was not hundred percent until filing of this report
given the player had missed the team’s Friday practice to be with his family.
Richardson was with his girlfriend on Friday (Oct. 05) who gave birth to his third child but coach Pat Shurmur hopes he will be able to return and travel with the team to New York for the game.
Irrespective of the question about his availability this Sunday, the running back warned the teammates that the Giants will come with a proper game plan, trying to throw everything on them. He still thinks they can find opportunities in between and put up
a strong show.
He said:
"If we put our hat on a number (block), just cover them up, I think we can get good yardage on them. But at the same time, I know they're going to throw everything they can at us. I'm pretty sure they're going to game plan around our running game, so we
need to make sure we open up the passing game so we can get some good runs in."
He added:
“I think that if we cover the edges and run hard, not doing all this junking and that, I think we can have some success in the running game."
The running back is the bright spot of this year’s draft selections by the Browns. The team has started the season with as many as 15 rookie players and is struggling in the lack of experience.
Richardson has been tightly marked by the opposition defence in each game but has performed rather well under pressure. If he is able to rip through Giants defences, the Browns stand a chance of playing a competitive game, no matter what is the outcome of
it.
A win will certainly be difficult against the reigning Super Bowl champions at their home ground and in front of their home crowd but it will be rather disappointing for the coach if the Browns are not able to challenge the opposition. As Richardson believes,
there will certainly be many opportunities and it is up to the team how they exploit them to their gains.
