RBC Canadian Open; Nathan Green ready to defend Canadian title
Nathan Green vows to defends his RBC Canadian Open title this week in the event which is being played over Royal St. George’s Golf and Country Club in Etobicoke, in the suburbs of Toronto. The 18 hole course is a creation of a renowned American architect, Stanley Thompson.
The course was built in 1929, and it has hosted this championship four times in the past on different occasions. The last time the event was hosted was in 1968 when Bob Charles a native of New Zealand defeated Jack Nicklaus by two shots.
The first time when the event was hosted back in the year 1933 it had a different name, the Royal York Golf Club. In 1946 the name changed to the Royal St. Georges Golf and Country Club. The course has also hosted the Du Maurier Classic on the LPGA Tour, a major championship in women’s golf at the present time.
The defending champion Nathan Green, who played the golf course in front of the media a few weeks back, acclaimed that he was really pleased with the condition of the course. He said, that earlier this year when he came to play on the poa annua greens of the beautiful course, he felt a tremendous challenge.
Many players who witnessed at St. Andrews the fighting against the tormented weather conditions and challenging greens will be seen here as well. Betting has already started on who is going to win the challenge of the course.
Retief Goosen the runners up of the last year event held at Glen Abbey will also be taking part in the tournament. Retief Goosen who lost a playoff to Nathan Green last year in Toronto has been showing tremendous improvement. He finished at the 6th position in the British open with 7 under par total and received a lot of appreciation. Retief Goosen seems to be in a comparatively better physical form after the thumb surgery.
Another player that will be seen on the green of the course is Paul Casey, who happens to stand at the third position along with 2 other players at the British opens. Despite being consistent in events outside of the major championships he could not bring the victory home. Only if he puts the disappointment of the British open aside he still has chances to win the tournament.
Sean O’Hair, who has not won any championship after Quail Hollow which took place 15 months ago, was one of the hopes of America to bring the title back home. He has played on many high quality golf courses recently and it has added to the advantage of the player. It would be of little surprise if Sean O’Hair wins this event after 15 months.
Ricky Barnes with a score of 68, 71, 72, 77: an altogether 288 at the British open this year performed with great credit. He appears to be on the verge of something special with the position of six in top ten in 2010.
Trevor Immelman; the 2008 master’s champion is all set in rebuilding his game plan and confidence which he use to have 2 years back. He is coming back to his form after two very challenging tournaments held in Scotland.
The Australians Nathan Green is ready to defend his title this year although his recent performance at AT&T nationals’ week back says something different. It was not convincing at all.
“I hit it awful last week,” he said today. “My putting has improved however and I am working on a couple of things at present. It has been either good or bad. Hopefully this week things will be good”.
Stuart Appleby, Aaron Baddeley, Greg Chalmers, Steve Elkington, Matt Jones, David Lutterus, Jarrod Lyle, James Nitties, Cameron Percy, Aron Price and Matt Jones are also included on the list of players who are getting better every passing day. They all are ready to give Nathan Green a very healthy challenge.
