RBC Heritage: Chad Campbell, Vaughan Taylor, Colt Knost share lead in the first round
Chad Campbell, Vaughan Taylor and Colt Knost are playing well at the RBC Heritage, as they shot a 4-under 67, sharing an early lead in the first round.
The first round of the PGA Tour staged event is over now and three professionals are leading the scoreboard. They cheered all the spectators by scoring well at the Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Campbell scored better than the others. He started the round impressively and shot five birdies and a bogey on the front nine holes of the course.
The 37-year-old American's performance on the front nine took him to the top of the list. Then, on the back nine, he only added one birdie, whereas he also scored another bogey.
"I haven't felt like I've been that far off," Campbell said. "But the results haven't been good at all".
Taylor started the round with a bogey. Then, he tremendously made three birdies and an amazing eagle on the front nine holes. Analysts said that scoring an eagle in the first round always helps lead the scores.
Similarly, the 36-year-old made two more impressive birdies on the 12th and 15th hole. However, he shot a double-bogey on the 16th hole as well.
"I hit a smooth one," Taylor said. "Came off right, right at it, and fortunate enough to go in".
Knost also played well and consistently. Among the three, he was the only one who carded fewer bogeys than the other two leaders.
He scored two birdies and only one bogey on the front nine holes. He displayed an amazing performance later, making three more birdies and playing a bogey-free back nine.
The 26-year-old competed well for the title and gave a tough time to all the other players. Saving bogeys took him to the top of the list.
"It's just my kind of course," Knost said. "You have to hit it fairly straight. Distance isn't that big a deal. The greens are real small, just give yourself a lot of chances".
The current world number 1 golfer, Luke Donald faced hurdles while scoring and finished the first round tied for the 103rd position. The competition is tough and the upcoming three rounds will be more interesting.
