RBC Heritage: Gary Christian feels good over his decision, holding the 12th position
Gary Christian preferred to play the PGA Tours’ RBC Heritage, rather than the Nationwide Tour's TPC Stonebrae Championship this week.
He was placed third on the alternative list and his selection for the PGA Tour staged event was at risk. He was stuck in dilemma and was confused about what step to take.
There were two options for him, either he could take a flight to San Francisco, where his name was in the field of the Nationwide Tour staged event, or wait in South Carolina for the RBC Heritage selection.
Before the tournament, Ben Crane withdrew from the Heritage and Christian was successfully selected in the field of the mega event.
He decided to play the PGA Tour event at the Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Two rounds have finished and he has shot a 3-under 139 so far.
"It's tough on you. It's all a gamble," Christian said. "Obviously, you'd rather play on the PGA Tour, where you're playing for a purse of $5 or $6 million, but being the first alternate standing on the tee at 3:30 on Thursday afternoon doesn't get you very
far".
According to golf experts, this decision was better, as the PGA Tour has more influence than the Nationwide Tour. Similarly, the prize money is also larger, with increased honour as well.
"I probably hit it better yesterday," Christian said. "But I made it up and down around the green and probably holed a few putts better than I did yesterday. It was the same round as yesterday. It was just that I threw putts away yesterday and I didn't today".
He got off to a fast start in the tournament on Thursday, as he posted a tremendous eagle. He made two bogeys after that and ended the front nine holes by shooting a birdie.
He added two more birdies and three bogeys on the back nine holes. He finished the first round of the RBC Heritage at par.
On Friday, he played massively in the second round and scored six impressive birdies, one bogey and a double-bogey. He impressed all the spectators and fans by scoring a 3-under par.
Christian is six strokes behind the leader Colt Knost. After two rounds, Knost is standing at a 9-under 133 and is competing well for the title. The competition is tough and the next rounds will be tougher than the first two.
