RBC Heritage: Rory Sabbatini shoots 70 in first round
Rory Sabbatini is in the field of PGA Tours’ RBC Heritage, he secured the 11th position in the first round of the tournament.
The 36-year-old South African golf player teed off the event early in the morning at the Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
He was confident about the tournament during the practise session on Wednesday. He started the round by making two consecutive birdies on the first and second holes.
By making two early birdies, he boosted his confidence and shot two pars and another birdie on the fifth hole. His start was tremendous. He was working perfectly for the leading position, but lost focus after the seventh hole.
He carded his first bogey on the seventh and then scored six consecutive pars. He made his last birdie on the fourteenth hole.
Sabatini ended the first round of the RBC Heritage by making two unimpressive bogeys on the seventeenth and eighteenth holes.
His final scores were a 1-under 70 and he finished tied for the 11th position, with 12 other professionals. His overall game was appealing and he impressed the spectators on the course.
Since January, he has played many tournaments, staged by the PGA, but was unable to show some leading scores most of the time.
He missed the cut in five tournaments and finished the Transitions Championship on the 74th position. He also recorded T62 at the Honda Classic, T14 at Humana Challenge and T29 at the Sony Open in Hawaii.
His best finish of the year so far is at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, where he finished tied for the 9th leaderboard position impressively.
Chad Campbell, Vaughn Taylor and Colt Knost are the current leaders of the tournament. They scored 4-under 67 and are competing well for the title.
Due to Sabbatini’s average performance since the start of the first round, he is working hard at the RBC Heritage. Analysts said that he is doing a good job, but as he is five strokes behind the leading position, he has to put in an extra effort to gain a lead over his rivals.
From the second round on, he will have to face a heightened degree of competition. If he saves bogeys and scores at or under par, then he can lead the scores easily.
