RBC and Boeing will sponsor RBC Heritage for five years
The RBC Heritage of the PGA (Professional Golf Association) Tour has attracted two sponsorships, securing its future.
Last year, the tournaments’ future was at risk, due to it losing the lead sponsor, Verizon. The Governor Nikki Haley previously said that he would not increase the burden on the taxpayers by using their financial support for the tournament.
The funding should be from some corporate organisation or else the tournament will be at risk. Two corporate organisations showed interest in the golf tournament and now the event is back, securing the future as well.
The Royal Bank of Canada and the Boeing, both agreed to sponsor the PGA staged event and have signed a contract.
According to the signed deal, they will be sponsoring the event for five consecutive years from 2012.
"We made the corner and RBC's Gordon Nixon [the bank's CEO] said I can't believe how many people came," Haley said on Monday, at the Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
He added, "And I told him that's the people of South Carolina saying thank you. We want them to know that the people of South Carolina respect this tournament and we want RBC to know every day that all year long for several years to come".
He also said that the tournament is supporting the financials of the state and it must go on. It is expected that this sponsorship will bring in $82 million to the state's economy.
The numbers of the spectator are also expected to increase and according to the local survey, 140,000 golf lovers have shown interest to see their favourite golf players on the course.
Brandt Snedeker is the defending champion of the RBC Heritage. He is positively looking forward to winning back the glory again. Last year, he tied with Luke Donald for the leading position and won in a playoff mode.
Hence, Donald, Snedeker and Matt Kuchar are the leading contenders for the title. All of them are in their full form and since January, they have finished several tournaments among top positions.
The tournament is scheduled to start from April 12 to 15, in South Carolina. All the players are heading to play the first PGA staged event after the major, the Masters Tournament.
