RBI total by Ryan Zimmerman reflects role of Washington Nationals’ top order - MLB Update
An incredible number of RBIs accumulated by Washington Nationals’ third baseman Ryan Zimmerman reflects improvement of the team’s top-order. More often than not when Zimmerman stepped on the plate, runners were on base. Thus, the hits that he struck sent
more players home.
As a result, he has now earned a terrific number of RBIs in the season.
An impact batter at the top of the line-up can make on overall offensive number of a player that can be realised from his RBIs total.
Nationals have been fortunate with regard to watching most of their batters stepping up at the plate and thrashing hits in the season. Their top and middle order have been impressive.
Currently Jayson Werth is doing the leadoff job for the team. He is very capable of smacking home-runs as any other player down the line-up.
As soon as he begins proceedings at the plate, far from getting out he makes it to base frequently which in turn helps upcoming batters slam hits and post greater number of runs on the score-board.
Zimmerman has benefited hugely from the early hits coming off from Bryce Harper and Werth in the games. By striking while they stand on base has been a distinctive feature of his performance at the plate.
High running speed of Harper and Werth is a major factor in the second half of the season success of the Nationals. This has been acknowledged by Zimmerman.
“Obviously, you can’t get RBIs unless there’s guys on base,” Zimmerman said. “Jayson’s been phenomenal at the top of the order. Bryce has gotten better as the year’s gone on. To have those two guys on base, being able to score from first, being able to score
on a lot of balls, their speed and athleticism is a big reason why our numbers have kind of recovered to a respectable clip.”
Zimmerman heaps praise on Harper. The way he has now transformed himself into a formidable hitter is amazing. He is going to be a batter the Nationals will rely on heavily in the years to come.
With the post-season around the corner, Zimmerman will be looking to carry his terrific run of form forward and lift the team in the important matches ahead.
