RBR boss Christian Horner says Sebastian Vettel hugely impressive under pressure – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing principal Christian Horner has said that his team driver Sebastian Vettel is hugely under pressure at the moment, as only eight races are left for him to retain his world championship in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
After winning six races out of 11 rounds in the ongoing season, Vettel has been conceded as favourite to win the 2011 Formula 1 season’s battle. The team driver is moving in the right way from the start of this season, as he scored very decent points in
order to challenge this year’s title.
The Red Bull team principal also mentioned that despite losing five races in the season so far, the German is still leading the 2011 drivers’ championship with 234 points. In addition, he stated that Vettel’s current results in the sport are not so bad for
him, as he can still win this season by getting more achievements from the upcoming races.
Talking to reporters, Horner said, “He still came fourth in Germany and if you look at his rivals' worst races this year, they have been far worse than that. He's sitting on six victories with two second places and a fourth. That's not a bad scorecard and
he has been in a position to win three other races.”
He went on to mention, “That's how he goes into each grand prix. He has to attack. He's hungry for wins. But he's also sensible enough to know that when he can't win, that's when he needs to be delivering the points. But his mindset is to try and win every
grand prix.”
Horner also discussed Vettel’s aim with the media and said that he is hungry for more race wins in the season, as he wants to achieve another goal in his career after the 2010 Formula 1 season.
In the recent Hungarian Grand Prix, the 24-year-old driver failed to finish his race on the top place, as McLaren driver Jenson Button was faster as compared to him at the Hungaroring racetrack.
His teammate Mark Webber is also in a competitive form at the moment and performing very well for his team in the season as well. Currently, he is at the second place in the 2011 championship battle behind Vettel with 149 points.
Webber can retain his second place in the drivers’ championship until the end of this season if he performs in a similar manner in the next race weekends.
Let’s see how Vettel manages his run in the last eight races of the ongoing season following his disappointing last couple of races.
