RBR driver Mark Webber: 2011 Singapore Grand Prix will be a challenging one – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that the Singapore Grand Prix will be a challenging event of the 2011 Formula 1 season, which is scheduled to take place on September 25, 2011 at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
Webber added that Singapore will be the longest race of the ongoing season, as the International Automobile Federation (FIA) has set a two-hour time limit of the Grand Prix.
Talking to reporters, Webber said, “It’s also the longest race of the year, running close to the two-hour timelimit set by the FIA, and the intense heat and humidity makes it pretty warm in the cockpit.”
The Australian discussed the 2010 Formula 1 season and mentioned that he finished his race in the third spot at the Marina Bay Street Circuit in 2010. He hoped to secure the same third position in the upcoming race weekend.
He went on to mention, “I finished third at the Marina Bay circuit last year, but the track hasn’t been that kind to me in the past. I enjoy driving there, so I hope to nail it this year in much the same way that I nailed Valencia earlier this season. In
the championship, four of us – me, Fernando, Jenson and Lewis – are separated by just 14 points and none of us is going to give an inch.”
Apart from that, the 35-year-old driver stated that the 2011 championship battle is between four drivers and none of them is going to give each other any room for error. Mark Webber, Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton are separated by only
14 points in the 2011 drivers’ standings and will be trying to chase down leader Sebastian Vettel in the remainder of the season.
The RBR driver failed to finish his 2011 Italian race due to an accident. After completing 4 laps of the Monza race, he retired from the Grand Prix after damaging his front wing in a collision.
After his retirement from the Monza race weekend, Webber is sitting at the fourth place ahead of McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton with 167 points in the drivers’ championship.
Let’s see how Webber performs at the Marina Bay Street Circuit this weekend.
