Red Bull Racing team driver Sebastian Vettel secured his 12th pole in the 2011 Formula 1 season for the Japanese Grand Prix at the Suzuka circuit on October 8.
All the drivers qualified for the race except Mercedes GP’s Nico Rosberg and HRT’s Vitantonio Liuzzi, who will start the race on Sunday from the rear end of the grid.
RBR driver Vettel set the fastest time of 1 minute and 30.466 seconds in the last moment of Q3 ahead of McLaren’s Jenson Button.
The German managed his pole place during the Qualifiers at the Suzuka circuit for the 12th time in the ongoing season.
Button had a gap of only 0.009 seconds from Vettel and after using the sets of medium and soft tyres by Pirelli, he came at the second place on the final Q3 classifications.
Button’s teammate Lewis Hamilton successfully secured his third place for the 2011 Japanese Grand Prix in Q3. He was 0.151 seconds off the pace of Vettel and after putting all of his efforts, he ended up ahead of Ferrari’s Felipe Massa, who has finished
his Q3 in the fourth spot.
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso will start his Japanese Grand Prix from the fifth position on the opening grid on Sunday, October 9, 2011. The Spaniard had a gap of 0.420 seconds from Vettel in Q3 and after struggling for his best possible position for the
raceday, he ended his qualifying round in the fifth spot.
Red Bull Racing second driver Mark Webber was slow at the Suzuka circuit in Q3. He could not manage his Qualifiers in the top three positions for the raceday, as his rivals were faster as compared to him. He will start the Japanese race from the sixth position
on the grid.
Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher qualified at the seventh position in the end, while Renault’s Vitaly Petrov will start the Japanese Grand Prix from the eighth position at the Suzuka circuit according to final Q3 classifications.
Petrov’s teammate Bruno Senna claimed a ninth place for Renault in the end of Q3 at Suzuka.
Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi finished his Q3 at the 10th position at the Japanese racetrack without going into the pitlane.
After the Qualifiers, Kamui Kobayashi was promoted to number 7th position ahead of Schumacher, Petrov and Senna. The 2011 rules state that the driver who comes out to set the flying lap in Q3 is classified higher than those who do not.
Let’s see whether Vettel wins the race on Sunday following his very strong Qualifiers performance at the Suzuka circuit.
