RBR’s Mark Webber prefers to win races over second place in 2011 drivers' standings – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that he would rather take wins over 2nd position in the standings behind his teammate Sebastian Vettel.
Webber has been in a good form in the 2011 Formula 1 season so far, but he could not win a single race for the team in order to challenge this year’s championship.
The team principal Christian Horner has stated that the team wants to make it a perfect year by claiming the constructors’ title and the top two positions in the standings.
While Vettel has secured his second world championship in his career and Red Bull Racing has won the constructors title as well. The only thing that remains is for Webber to claim the 2nd position behind Vettel in the drivers’ standings.
The Australian driver stated that he has not been able to achieve this accolade before, so that will also be quite an achievement for him and that he would be very satisfied with his overall performance in the ongoing season.
It has been a good year for the Red Bull Racing team. Both of the drivers, Webber and Vettel did not have a very good relation in the 2010 Formula 1 season, but this season things are looking better and cooled down between them.
“The relationship is fine. It's a lot easier than it was last year because it hasn't been much of a battle so, hopefully, we can have a more interesting relationship next year,” he joked.
As for 2012 year's Championship, Webber added, “Let's hope it's bloody tighter than this year, that's for sure, and I'm pretty sure it will be, but the usual suspects.”
Webber also spoke about Dan Wheldon’s sad and sudden death at the Indycar event at Las Vegas in US, only a few hours after the 2011 Korean Grand Prix finished.
He added, “I think the pack racing element of it is particularly hazardous. The single seaters, to be that tightly packed to be rubbing each other at 350kms an hour, that's what they are probably going to look into on a short oval.”
Webber is ready to race at the newly developed Buddh International Circuit in India, on October 30, 2011.
