RBR’s Mark Webber says momentum is important until the end of 2011 season – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber has said that momentum is important for the 2012 championship.
Webber added that if he manages a decent ending to the 2011 Formula 1 season, he can definitely take a strong start to the 2012 F1 season.
The team driver is going to take part in the last round of the ongoing season at Brazil, on November 27, so he wants to maintain his strong drive until the end of the championship and look for a better start to the next year.
The Australian also mentioned that he is aiming is to cover maximum gap from his teammate Sebastian Vettel in standings at the upcoming Brazil Grand Prix.
He discussed the 2011 year and commented, “My last grand prix, the race on Sunday was competitive even though I was down 20 or 30 pounds of downforce, on Sundays I have been competitive.”
Webber went on to mention, “I weigh 10 kilos more than Sebastian, it has a big bearing on weight distribution which has a big bearing on starts, which has a big bearing on how the tyres hold up. But I have had that for my whole career, I can't be much lighter
so we have to work with what we have.”
Apart from that, the 35-year-old driver is looking forward to the winter break after the end of the season. He stated that there are just three more days to work with the team for this season, but it will be nice when the 2011 F1 calendar will turn over
after this weekend.
In the 2011 Abu Dhabi race weekend, Red Bull Racing driver, Webber started the Grand Prix from the fourth position on the opening grid and after running in his RB7 car, he ended up in the same spot ahead of Ferrari’s Felipe Massa, who finished the race at
the fifth position.
After completing 18 rounds of the ongoing season so far, Webber is placed at the fourth position with 233 points in the drivers’ standings.
He has a gap of 141 points from Vettel at the moment.
Let’s see whether Webber successfully closes the gap from his teammate Vettel in Brazil or not.
