RBR’s Sebastian Vettel says Raikkonen needs some time to be competitive in sport – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel has said that Kimi Raikkonen has to give much time to Formula 1 sport in order to become competitive when he returns in 2012.
Vettel added that right now it is very difficult to judge how Raikkonen will perform on the grid when he returns to Formula 1 next year.
The Red Bull Racing team driver took an example of Mercedes GP’s Michael Schumacher and mentioned that when Schumacher returned to sport after his three-year retirement, then he said himself that everything in the sport has changed and that there were a
lot of things that he needed to adapt if he wants to continue racing in Formula 1.
Talking to reporters, the German commented, “A driver like him has the potential and the talent to get used to things again. But even myself if I look back two years and the car that I raced two years ago, how many things changed is unbelievable. From the
regulations point of view but also how many things changed during the season.”
He went on to mention, “You used different buttons on the steering wheel, different procedures. Day in day out it's not a big change, but if you stop and then you drive the same car it's difficult to adapt to the car you drove two years ago.”
The double world champion further stated that he thinks Raikkonen takes right decision for himself, because he really wanted to become the part of the sport again.
The team Lotus-Renault confirmed Raikkonen for the 2012 Formula 1 season. The Finn driver was a part of the sport from 2001 to 2009 and in the end of the 2009 F1 season he left Formula 1 after Fernando Alonso’s arrival.
The 32-year-old driver will take part in the 2012 Formula 1 season for Lotus-Renault.
On the other hand, Vettel won the 2011 world championship in a wonderful way. He ended the championship scoring 392 points.
After the season ended, Vettel is looking forward to 2012 championship. The team are also hopeful of achieving another title following the 2011 championship.
Let’s see whether Vettel keeps the momentum of his strong performance next year or not.
